The Columbia River Gorge - Nature’s Canvas

Published by munkwunk at 1:19 pm under Oregon Edit This

Have you ever visited the North West? If you have, you know that it is home to some of the most breathtaking natural scenery on the planet: lush forests, towering waterfalls, huge mountains, valleys, and rivers. Few other regions exist that contain so much diversity in such a relatively small area. We have high deserts, rainforests, rocky coastlines, and more.

If you haven’t visited the North West yet, make a point of visiting some day. More importantly, if you can only visit one area of the great North West, visit the Columbia River Gorge, just east of Portland, Oregon. This beautiful river valley is home to the most amazing sites you could imagine. Don’t just take my word for it, though; do a Google Image search for “Columbia River Gorge” and see what photographers have captured on film.

The Columbia River Gorge is home to hundreds of waterfalls, including the nation’s second-tallest year-round waterfall, Multnomah Falls. There are at least a dozen other large falls and countless smaller falls in the area, all within a short driving/hiking distance from each other. Many of the falls can be approached via trails that lead directly to them, and bridges have been built across some so you can stand and bask in the cold mist of the roaring waters that tumble down from above.

Check out the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area web site for more information about the Gorge.
